Non Resident Nepali Australia’s Victorian chapter has created a lot of smiles this Sunday. It hosted a picnic for elders and parents in Melbourne. An initiative of NRN Victoria, it was organized jointly by Nepalese Association of Victoria and the Consulate General’s office in Victoria.

It almost seemed bad weather would get away with its cause; however the merriment overtook the weather at Melbourne’s Yan Yean Reservoir Park. The elders took part in the various activities organized, portrayed various cultural reflections in their acts. In a short informal program organized at the picnic, Honorary Consulate General Chandra Yonzon said that NRN Victoria had shown a commitment of responsibility to its elders through the picnic. “Elders/parents sometimes feel alone, miss their home, friends and neighbours, this picnic perhaps has alleviated a little bit of loneliness”, he said. A few words were also shared by NAV’s president Dr. Anupam Pokhrel and President of Nepalese Community Centre Dr. Chanda Dipak Pokhrel.

Enthusiasm from respected community members such as NRN Australia’s President Tonnou Ghothane, Vice President Keshav Kandel, picnic organizer Gautam Lamichhane added more fervor in the picnic. Grace Education’s Ram Chandra Poudel and Buyer’s Choice’s Surendra Sedhai also presented certificates to the supporters and volunteers.
