Melbourne, Australia – 550 women have filed a lawsuit against Uber. 550 women in the US have filed a lawsuit against the ride-sharing company Uber, alleging that its drivers misbehaved.
The case filed by them covers serious issues including kidnapping, sexual abuse, sexual assault, rape, false imprisonment, stalking, harassment and assault by drivers. “Sexual harassment is a serious crime and we take every report seriously,” an Uber spokesperson told. Nothing is more important here than safety. That’s why Uber has built new safety features. It has instituted survivor-focused policies, and has been more transparent about serious incidents. We cannot comment on pending cases. We will continue to put safety at the center of our work.”
The complaint, filed by attorneys at the law firm Slater Shulman, alleges the sexual misconduct occurred in multiple states. Similarly, it is also said that 150 incidents are being thoroughly investigated.
The lawsuit, filed in court, alleges that even though Uber was aware that its drivers had sexually assaulted and raped female passengers as early as 2014, the company prioritized profit over passenger safety.
Last week, the Uber files, which contain illegal practices by Uber, became the subject of global discussion.
