Australia’s Victoria enters 5 day snap lockdown as Holiday Inn Cluster continues to grow

Melbourne, Australia:

Victoria will enter a 5-day snap lockdown beginning 11:59 p.m. Friday as an outbreak linked to the Holiday Inn quarantine hotel at Melbourne Airport grows to 13 cases. Five new cases were confirmed on Thursday alone, sparking fears the highly infectious UK strain of coronavirus has spread more extensively than thought.

Victoria will effectively return to Stage Four Lockdown – it’s third time since the onset of the pandemic. There will be four reasons to leave home:

From 11:59pm tonight, all of Victoria will return to stage four lockdown restrictions, meaning there are only four main reasons to leave the home:

  • shopping for essential supplies,
  • care and caregiving,
  • exercise,
  • essential work.

Face masks will be cumpulsory.

Outdoor visitors will be prohibited and public gatherings prohibited.

Exercise and shopping will also be limited to 5 kilometre radius of home – exercise will be allowed for 2 hours per day maximum.
