Campsie: Two men charged with armed robbery

Two men have been charged with armed robbery following an incident in Campsie in July 2019.

About 12.00am (Sunday 21 July 2019) a 26-year-old man got off a train at Campsie. He was followed by two unknown men onto North Parade, where one of the men threatened the 26-year-old with a knife and demanded his wallet.

The two men, aged 22 and 18, searched the man and took his phone, keys and cigarettes.

The offenders allegedly assaulted the man before demanding that he take them to his car and an ATM to obtain more cash.

The 26-year-old managed to escape and headed to Campsie Police Station to report the matter.

Following police investigations and a review of CCTV vision of the area, one of the men (aged 18) was identified and later charged by Bankstown detectives after committing a similar robbery.

About 7.20am (Thursday 15 August 2019), police executed a search warranted at a Belfield unit. A number of items were seized by police and will be forensically examined. A 22-year-old was arrested and taken to Campsie Police Station.

Both men have been charged with robbery whilst armed with offensive weapon and detain person in company with intentions to obtain advantage.

Both were refused bail and appeared in Burwood Local Court on Thursday 15 August 2019.
