Police are reminding commuters to travel safely on public transport and roads across NSW as students return from school holidays.
Officers from Police Transport Command will maintain a strong presence across the transport network, patrolling trains, buses, light rail, and ferries to keep the community safe.
“We want everyone to arrive at their destination safely, as students go back to school and public transport numbers return to near normal pre-COVID,” Commander of Police Transport Command North/Central Sector, Detective Acting Superintendent Todd Cunningham, said.
“Police are here to help, so if you see any suspicious activity, anti-social behaviour or crime, please report it to Crime Stoppers – or Triple Zero if it’s an emergency,” Det A/Supt Cunningham said.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Command officers will also be out in force on roads across the state to ensure motorists are driving safely and observing the 40km/h school zones.
School zones are active from 8am to 9.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Karen Webb, said officers will continue targeting those who are speeding, double parking, or using phones in school zones, to keep students safe.
“Everyone knows of the 40km/h limit in school zones, which have been in place for many years, and it’s our expectation people comply with it and other safety requirements,” Assistant Commissioner Webb said.
Drivers wanting additional reminders of the speed limit can also download the Speed Advisor App, which provides audio alerts about speed limit changes, including when you enter a school zone, or if you are speeding.
