As part of “Digital Nepal” strategy, the Government of Nepal is progressing towards its 2020 goal of a digital literacy rate of 75 per cent, as more Nepalese are embracing technology across a wide range of areas.

Students who undertake high-quality Information Technology (IT) degrees will be positioning themselves at the forefront of a very dynamic industry. With IT and digital technologies driving global economic growth, the demand for skilled IT professionals is growing rapidly.

Nepal’s IT sector has grown significantly because of investment in improved telephone and internet infrastructures and there is an interest in focusing on IT skills development, especially among the younger population.

The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is at the forefront of emerging trends in data, IT and engineering, with strong research programs into areas such as virtual reality, artificial intelligence and wearable technologies.

Rohit Maharjan from Kathmandu has found studying IT in Sydney to be a valuable experience. Having commenced his Bachelor of Science in IT at UTS after finishing his diploma of IT at UTS Insearch, Rohit is working towards a career in cybersecurity.

“I’ve always been interested in technology, specifically cybersecurity. In my studies, I’ve been focusing on learning how to build the cybersecurity and network of a company,” Rohit said.

“I did a lot of research before choosing where to study. UTS and UTS Insearch are among the best when it comes IT. UTS has one of the highest graduate employment rates which was also a big deciding factor for me.”

UTS Insearch’s Program Manager – IT, Jasmine Cheng says UTS is preparing students like Rohit for careers in the industry.

“UTS’s Faculty of Engineering and IT offers some of the biggest range of opportunities for students to interact with industry – with more than 1,000 industry partners and a lot of opportunities for internships,” Ms Cheng said.

“We encourage internships to ensure students are constantly connected with industry and the latest developments.  At UTS, experiencing cutting-edge technology in these new industries is an extremely important part of the learning process.”

UTS is a dynamic and innovative university based in the heart of Sydney which stands in the 140th position globally, in the QS World University Rankings 2020.

Many undergraduate students choose to go to the University of Technology Sydney by enrolling in UTS Insearch where they can enhance their English Language skills if required, and develop the knowledge, skills and experience to succeed in their university study and beyond.
