Melbourne, Australia – Post-study work period for foreign students in Australia will be increased. The Minister of Education, Jason Clare, issued a statement and informed that international students will be allowed to work after completing their studies.
In a statement released by him, the purpose of addressing Australia’s labor shortage is to extend the working period for international students after their studies. Now, students who have completed their bachelor’s studies will be allowed to work for 4 years, those who have completed their masters for 5 years and those who have completed their PHD will be allowed to work for 6 years after their studies. Before this, bachelor’s degree holders were allowed to work for 2 years, master’s degree holders 3 years and PHD holders 4 years.
It has been informed that a working group will be formed to advise the Minister of Home Affairs and Education on the development of this subject and other related matters. Members of the working group will include representatives from the International Education Council, the National Territorial Education Association, Australian universities and the Department of Home Affairs and Education. It has been informed that the task force will prepare a report by October 28.
The government has said it will hire 500 staff over the next nine months to help with visa processing.
