Fatal crash in Queensland kills mother and four children

A fatal crash involving a car and a truck seven kilometres outside Kumbia in South Burnett has killed a woman and her four children last night.

According to the police report, a Nissan station wagon travelling South on Bunya Highway at around 7:20 pm pulled out to overtake a truck. The car then crashed an oncoming truck leading both vehicles into flames.

The 35-year-old Eli Waters woman, who was the driver of the car along with her three children, all aged below 10 died at the scene of incident.

Another girl, aged under 10, travelling in the same car was taken to Kingaroy Hospital with severe injuries. She was transported later to Queensland Children’s Hospital, however she died during the flight.

The truck driver, a 47-year-old man, was transported to Kingaroy Hospital for the treatment of non-life threatening injuries. According to the police, he suffered injuries while trying to save lives.

Police are continuing the investigation and will remain in the scene for some hours.
