Federal Election 2019: Morrison announces May 18 election

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has announced a Federal election for 18 May 2019. Morrison made the announcement after a visit to see the Governor-General this morning.

Scott Morrison from Liberal and Bill Shorten from Labor are battling for the position of prime minister.

Morrison rose to prominence when he was tasked by opposition leader Tony Abbott to oversee coalition immigration policies. He promised to stop boats while asylum seekers arrived. He entered federal politics in 2007.

Shorten played an active role in National Disability Insurance scheme and also, drew national attention for ending Kevin Rudd’s prime ministership. In 2013, he won the battle for Labor’s leadership against Anthony Albanese.
