Flight attendant arrested for smuggling drugs into Melbourne sentenced

A Malindo Air flight attendant, who was arrested in 2019 for smuggling heroin into Melbourne, Australia has been sentenced for nine and a half years.

Zailee Zainal, a Malaysian flight attendant had smuggled drug packages between her legs and inside her bra and underwear before being picked up by the Australian Border Force in 2019.

According to reports, Ms. Zainal made a total of eight trips and smuggled in more than 4 kilograms of heroin between October 2018 and January 2019. Police estimate the drugs to be about $3 million in street value.

The court heard Ms. Zainal, a mother of three, that was driven into desperation as she had to pay for her daughter’s hospital bills.

County Court Judge Michael Cahill also said that Ms. Zainal deserved to be shown some leniency, and that it was unlikely Ms. Zainal would reoffend.

Ms. Zainal will be eligible for parole in about three years, and is most likely to be deported at the end of her sentence.
