Disgraced former Liberal MP Daryl Maguire in his second day of evidence to the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) NSW revealed that he had spoken to the premier about ‘general problems’ he had been having. The ‘general problems’ included a $1.5m debt he had been hoping to pay off by facilitating a land deal over a Western Sydney property owned by racing heir Louise Waterhouse.

Maguire told ICAC he “may have” raised his debt with Berejiklian, “seeking some guidance and reassurance”.

The hearing was played a telephone intercept from September 5, 2017, in which Mr Maguire informed the Premier he’d “make enough money to pay off my debts” after “getting the Badgerys Creek stuff done”.

Mr Maguire told the commission he stood to receive a payment of up to $1.5 million related to the sale of land around Badgerys Creek.

Maguire told ICAC that he had been in a secret “on and off relationship” with Berejiklian since about 2015. Asked if the relationship was still ongoing Maguire replied: “Not after this”, referring to the ICAC inquiry.
