Kathmandu – There has been a significant increase in the number of Nepali students applying for visas in Australia. Lately, the number of Nepali students applying for visas has been even higher than the two major neighbors India and China.
Over the past 30 years, foreign students have been a major source of immigration to Australia. Due to the Corona epidemic, the number of immigrants is estimated to be 235,000 per year by 2024. Most of them are students.
Student contributions to net migration declined sharply in the negative after the global financial crisis. However, after the implementation of Night Review from 2012-13, this number has increased.
From 2014-15, students represented more than 40 percent of net immigration. Before the 2018-19 epidemic, the figure had reached 47 percent. Data on the migration of 2021 is not available now. However, due to the effects of the Corona epidemic, this figure is expected to fall below the negative zone. At the same time, there were more people leaving Australia than coming. As a result, the number of people staying in Australia on student visas has dropped dramatically.
As of December 2021, the number of students on student visas in Australia had shrunk to 315,949. While this number was 633,186 in September 2019. However, there is a significant number of students waiting for a bridging visa in March 2022. At that time, the number of such students was 373,000. Which is by far the most.
