A land slide near Khancoban has closed Kosciuszko – Alpine Way drive, the highway connecting Jindabyne in the southern reaches of Kosciuszko National Park to Khancoban, near the Victorian border. The closure is expected to remain in place for a number of days, and motorists travelling to the Snowy Mountains from Victoria are being told to check www.livetraffic.com for road conditions.

The Alpine Way is steep, narrow and winding between Khancoban and Thredbo. Although dubbed as one of the most scenic road trips of Australia, its landscape subjects it to rockfalls after rain.

For travelers who have already made their plans, they are a number of alternate routes – please consult your maps for the same.
