Mildura woman steals car with toddler inside from drive-through

A woman has been charged after she allegedly stole a car with a 2-year-old child inside on Saturday in Mildura.

Police were called just after 6.30 pm in a bottle shop when a car with the child was allegedly taken from the drive through. The officers were able to locate the car after 20 minutes after it struck a tree with child still inside.

After the incident, the 33-year-old woman who was driving the car entered a house and assaulted a 56-year-old man with a fry pan on his face causing injuries. The woman was then arrested shorty at the house.

The child was uninjured and has been reunited with the family.

The woman has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, false imprisonment, child stealing, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, trespass, assault with a weapon and traffic-related offences. She was remanded and will appear in local Magistrates’ court today.
