Brisbane – A delegation representing the Nepali community in Queensland met with Premier David Crisafulli in Brisbane to express serious concern over the recent broad daylight robberies at two Nepali-owned jewelry stores. The delegation called for increased safety measures and relief support for affected businesses.
During the meeting held at the Premier’s office, the delegation informed him about the fear, psychological distress, and sense of insecurity that the incidents have caused within the community. They requested the government to provide relief packages to the affected business owners and their families. The representatives also expressed their commitment to long-term collaboration with the government on safety initiatives to ensure all communities remain secure.
Premier Crisafulli responded positively, affirming the government’s strong commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He also assured that additional steps would be taken to enhance security across the state.
During the discussion, the development plans of the Queensland Nepali Cultural Centre (QNCC) were briefly discussed. The Premier reiterated his support for the initiative and expressed his willingness to meet again after the development approval process is complete.
The meeting was attended by Shambhu Gaishe, Vice President of NRNA Australia and Queensland State Coordinator; Hemang Sharma, President of the Nepali Association Queensland; and Keshav Sharma and Hom Poudel from QNCC.
Meanwhile, the delegation also expressed gratitude toward MP Fiona Simpson for her continued support of the victims. The Nepali community highly appreciated her proactive coordination with police, victims’ families, and the broader community, as well as her compassionate approach.
