Sydney, Australia:
New South Wales, Australia’s most populous state has recorded three consecutive days of zero new locally transmitted cases of Covid-19. There were 19,959 tests reported to 8pm last night, compared with the previous day’s total of 10,621.
There were three cases recorded in returned travellers, bringing the total number of COVID-19 cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic to 4,890.
NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said she hopes to return the state to “pre-Avalon conditions” if number of cases continue to remain low. She has also said that masks would most probably be mandatory on public transport indefinitely.
An outbreak in Sydney’s northern beaches in December, referred to as the ‘Avalon Cluster’, had forced NSW to reimpose several restrictions. The state has been urging people to follow public health advice, and to get themselves if they show any symptoms.
