New South Wales will open its border with Victoria from 23rd November, 2020, NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian has said in an announcement.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews welcomed the decision, but has reminded Victorians to keep safety as their priority when making travel decisions.
“I would urge all Victorians, don’t be going to Sydney for Christmas unless you absolutely have to”, Premier Andrews said reminding Victorians that there are plenty of places within Victoria to make travel plans for as well.
Victoria, on Wednesday, reported zero new cases of Covid-19 for the fifth consecutive day – a remarkable progress from late July, early August when infections were peaking at around 700 cases daily.
Meanwhile, NSW reported three new cases of locally transmitted COVID-19 today.
Premier Berejiklian said the decision to open the border was arrived upon after consultations with the Prime Minister and Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews. She aslo acknowledged the associated risks with opening up the border, but expressed confidence in the health authorities of both states.
