A couple have escaped injury when a stolen car crashed into their bedroom in Penrith this morning.
Officers attached to Traffic and Highway Patrol attempted to stop a red Mazda 3 – with its headlights off – when they saw it being driven from a home in Coreen Ave, Penrith, about 2.20am (Sunday 11 August 2019).
When the driver failed to stop – and instead accelerated away – a pursuit was initiated, with speeds of more than 100km/h in 50km/h streets reached before police lost sight of the vehicle.
A perimeter was established and, a short time later, the car was found crashed into the bedroom of a home in Kareela Avenue.
A couple sleeping in the room were shaken but uninjured; however, the building has sustained significant structural damage.
The driver had left the scene before police arrived.
Inquiries revealed the car had been stolen from the home in Coreen Avenue, along with personal items.
Investigations are now underway into the identity of the driver and if there was anyone else in the car at the time.
The car has been seized for forensic examination and inquiries are continuing.
