A man has been arrested in a large “police incident” in the Melbourne CBD this afternoon that has caused major delays to trams.

Writing on Twitter, Victoria Police said, “Victoria Police is responding to an incident at Flinders and Williams streets in Melbourne CBD and we are asking everyone to avoid the area. A man has been arrested. Updates to follow.”

Various streets have been closed following the incident. “Traffic closures are at Flinders and King Street, Flinders Street and Market Street, Queensbridge, William Street and Flinders Street,” Victoria Police said.

Several witnesses have been wiring on about cop cars on the scene at Flinders St.

Yarra Trams said that route 70, 75 and City Circle trams have been delayed in both directions.
