Melbourne, Australia: Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has said ‘he hopes he can announce further easing of restrictions for businesses this weekend’ after CEOs of seven Australian companies sent an open letter to Premier Andrews requesting him to expedite opening of the Victorian economy.

The open letter, sent by seven of Australia’s biggest companies, congratulated Premier Andrews and his office for controlling the spread of the virus, but drew the attention of the state’s rising unemployment and underemployment. They said the prolonged lockdown measures are ‘not sustainable’.

“Our state is facing social and economic challenges of an unprecedented scale, and which will take many years to resolve. All this raises serious questions about how we will attract future talent to Victoria”, the letter reads.

Responding to the letter Premier Andrews said, “We have to deal with the health problem first. But to those CEOs and others, I very much hope that we will have more to say on the weekend”.
