Nepali Tharus in Sydney of Australia are all set to host a program on the occasion of Maghi festival.
The Nepali Tharu community aims to help Australian firefighters with the proceeds from the event scheduled on January 15, informed Deep Narayan Chaudhary, President of Tharu Society in Sydney. Maghi festival also marks the beginning of Tharu New Year 2643.
“Australia is our second home and we want to pay back to the country by helping the local firefighters. Hence we decided to raise funds for firefighters through our cultural program,” he said.
This is the second time that Nepali Tharu community in Australia will be organizing cultural event to mark Maghi festival. Chaudhary informed that the event will incorporate cultural programs along with Tharu dishes.
The event will be held at the local Tempe Park on Wednesday. Chaudhary added that such events will highlight the importance of Tharu culture and social values.
About 500 Tharu families are estimated to be currently living in Australia.
