United FC Melbourne champions of the GNCV Soccer League – for a record breaking fifth time

GNCV Soccer League 2019, one of the most coveted league within the Nepali community in Victoria has concluded after an exciting match between United FC Melbourne and the Himalayan Tiger FC (6 -1). The legendary United FC Melbourne netted 6 goals, while the emerging Himalayan Tigers were able to net 1 goal.

Being played since 2009, United FC Melbourne has appeared in all final matches of the GNCV Soccer League, and have emerged victorious five times (including 2019), therefore setting a proud and historical record for the team. Ekjan Tuladhar and Suraj Shrestha, legends of United FC, have represented United FC Melbourne in all finals, therefore setting a personal record for themselves too.

The ‘Best Player’ of the tournament along with the ‘Man Of the Match’ was awarded to Sajan Thapa Magar, captain of the United FC Melbourne, while vice-captain Bishwo Gurung became the ‘highest scorer’ of the tournament with 18 goals.

Deepak Shrestha, manager of UFC Melbourne expressed great pride upon the team’s victory. “GNCV soccer league has a great reputation among the Victorian Nepali Community. Facing strong opponents such as the Himalayan Tigers was a huge challenge, and I am proud of my team’, he said.

Starting from September, 2019, a total of 9 teams participated in the tournament. Royal Western Football Club beat Himalayan FC to come third.
