Victoria reported 11 new cases of coronavirus overnight on Thursday, bringing metropolitan Melbourne’s 14-day rolling case average further down by 0.2 points to 9.7. The state also recorded no new fatalities owing to Covid-19 on Friday.
While Melbourne (and Victoria) continue to drive their numbers down, an uptick in the state’s mystery cases, especially owing to the Chadstone and now Kilmore cluster is concerning.
While no new cases were linked to Chadstone on Friday, a total of 31 cases have been linked to the Chadstone Butcher Club cluster since it was first reported on Wednesday. The Victorian Government is requesting anyone who may have come in close contact within the area to get themselves tested.
Meanwhile Victoria is also widening its contact tracing program in Kilmore, a regional town after four cases have been confirmed in the cluster. A fifth case is also being investigated.
Victoria will have to meet two trigger points before being allowed to move to step 3 of its roadmap Covid-19 normal:
- The state’s 14-day average is below five.
- The two-week total of mystery cases is below five.
The uptick in Victoria’s mystery cases add concern.
