Victoria: State of Emergency and Disaster extended by 4 weeks

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews has extended Victoria’s State of Emergency and State of Disaster for 4 more weeks. Under the new extension, Victoria will be under a State of Emergency, and State of Disaster until October 11 (11:59 pm).

While Victoria has been placed under a State of Emergency since 16th March, 2020, the State of Disaster applied from 2nd August, 2020, coinciding on the day of the imposition of Melbourne’s Stage 4 restrictions.

The duo – State of Emergency and State of Disaster allow the government to enforce directions of the Chief Health Officer towards helping control the spread of Covid-19. This includes police penalising public for disobeying mandatory face covering, violating night-time curfew, or disobeying other public health instructions mandated by the government.
