The body of a young Nepali man found deceased in his residence in Launceston, Tasmania, has remained unclaimed for nearly three months as efforts continue to return him to Nepal.
The deceased has been identified as Rakesh Kumar Patel, originally from Birgunj, Nepal. According to community sources, he was found dead in his room, and the process of repatriating his body has been delayed due to the significant costs involved.
With the consent of his family, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) Tasmania has launched a fundraising campaign through GoFundMe to help cover the expenses of transporting his body back to Nepal.
The campaign aims to raise AUD 15,000, with organisers urging the Nepali community across Australia and beyond to support the family during this difficult time.
Community members say no family should have to bear the financial burden of bringing their loved one home alone and have appealed for donations to ensure Mr Patel receives his final rites in Nepal.
