Last week, Milan Newar appeared on a Live interview after a long time. Her fans were excited to see her, and were gripped into the interview, until the topic bacame her personal life – she burst into tears.
Here, I would like to explore two subjects of interest – success and society, individually, and their co-existence.
Milan Newar is a talented singer, her melodious voice has won the hearts of many people. Born in Assam, India her fan base expanded beyond the Nepal and India. Pursuing her career, she made Nepal the centre of her art. She was highly successful.
That was all until she was Milan Newar. She then met a boy, fell in love, and got married and became Milan Amatya. Little did she know that life wasn’t like the dreamy romantic movies.
In her interview, she shared that her husband’s family did not like Milan priortising her work over family duties. But for Milan, singing was everything – things got so worse that she had to make a choice. A choice rarely men have to make – choosing between her family or her career.
She said, “They are trying to end not only my life, but also my career.”
Not only that, she also claimed to have been fired from pre-scheduled interview programs. Milan said that she got courage and bravery from her birth parents and their love and therefore decided to move forward in her life.
Eventually, in 2014 Milan separated from her husband and got a divorce.
