Some 13 houses behind the Red Cross building in Damak Ward No. 7 have been shifted to safer places due to the fear of flood in Ratuwa River following continuous rains since Sunday evening.
The locals stayed up all night after the flood started cutting in the settlement near the river bank, ward chairman Bhim Poudyal said.
The families of Khadga Limbu, Bishnu Limbu, Subash Limbu, Ram Kumari Lawati, Goma Tamang, Suryaman Acharya, Bimal Kisku, Rajesh Kisku, Manoj Maskey, Bharati Tamang, Lakpa Sherpa, Dick Bahadur Gurung and Deepak Gurung have been displaced.
According to Basanta Pathak, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Spokesperson for the District Police Office, Jhapa, Nepal Police has assisted the locals in taking them to a safe place. Police have rescued 13 at-risk families, he said.
Similarly, 25 families in Tanguwa settlement in Gauradaha-6 have been submerged due to the flood in Ratuwa River, police said. According to the District Police Office about 25 houses have been inundated by the floods but no family has been displaced so far.
