Locals of Salli in Darma Rural Municipality Ward No. 3 are ecstatic over the recently built COVID-19 Hospital and Isolation Centre coming into operation.
Expressing his exuberance, one local, Anil Chand, shared, “People do not have to travel as far as Rukum or the district headquarters for treatment and medication anymore.”
“Our humble village lacked even the most basic of medical facilities. But with the COVID-19 hospital coming into operation right in the neighbourhood, people feel a little more confident to combat the deadly pandemic,” added another local Balaram KC.
Accessing the possible risk of the pandemic’s third wave, the Rural Municipality has recently established a 15-bed isolation centre and has also erected a temporary COVID-19 hospital, fully equipped with additional 15 beds.
According to Rural Municipality Chairperson Nim Bahadur KC, the isolation centre and the hospital have been set up with new state-of-the-art Korean technology. “Previously, COVID-19 patients were referred to Salyan District Hospital or Chaurjahari-based Mission Hospital. Now we can take care of all our locals right here in Darma, save for critical cases,” he added.
Officials at the Rural Municipality claim to be far more prepared for the third wave of the virus as compared with the second wave. “We have learned from our mistake and have thus prearranged oxygen cylinders, concentrators among other medications necessary for the patients,” informed Yagya Bahadur Basnet, Health Coordinator at the municipality.
