The Janak Education Materials Centre (JEMC) has stated that it will
takes 15 days more to print all required textbooks for the new academic session. According to the JEMC, about 1,500,000 textbooks are required to be printed as per the demand for the new session. Now, it has been printing 100,000 textbooks daily, Chitra Acharya, its spokesperson, said.
The government had asked the JEMC to print 18.5 million textbooks for this academic session, but it has been unable to do so.
Though the JEMC wants to take excuse by showing the work of ballot papers printing this time, it could not make available sufficient textbooks at the start of new academic session even in previous years.
Meanwhile, the JEMC asked schools to complain if they are facing textbooks shortage even now. Spokesperson Acharya said that the centre would send the books to such schools on a priority basis.
According to our correspondents, schools in many districts, including Rukum West, have been facing shortage of textbooks and, as a result teachers and students went schools just for attendance.
However, Acharya said that such a situation arises due to negligence on the part of the concerned authorities.
