A total of 154 domestic and foreign industries have been registered during the first six months of the current fiscal year 2021/22.
According to the Department of Industry, 51 more industries were registered in the current fiscal year than the last fiscal year. A total of 103 industries were registered during the first six months of the last fiscal year.
Of these, 45 large, 57 medium and 52 small industries have been registered during this period. These industries have proposed a total investment of Rs. 186.47 billion.
Out of 154 registered industries, 10 are agro and forest-based industries with an investment of Rs. 1.859 billion, 64 manufacturing industries with investment of Rs. 40.57 billion and 23 are energy-based industries with an investment of Rs. 101.58 billion.
Similarly, three industries relating to information technology with an investment of Rs. 1.2 million, two infrastructure industries with investment of Rs. 698 million, 23 service industries with investment of Rs. 23.822 billion and 28 tourism industries with investment of Rs. 16.20 billion were registered during the review period.
Similarly, about 129 foreign industries with an investment commitment of Rs. 30.56 billion were approved during the same period. Of them, two are large, 37 medium and 90 small industries.
The approval for foreign investment has also increased during the review period as foreign investment of only Rs. 23.37 billion for 123 industries was approved in the corresponding period last fiscal year.
Among them, registered domestic and foreign industries have committed to provide employment to 13,748 people and the foreign industries which were approved by the department for investment have committed to provide employment to 8,146 people.
The present scenario of registration and approval of industries with foreign investment showed that the number of industry registration with their investment commitment would increase significantly over the current fiscal year.
A total of 8,068 industries have been registered with the investment commitment of Rs. 2,470 billion so far.
Similarly, the department has approved 5,366 foreign industries with an investment commitment of Rs. 395.42 billion by mid-January 2022.
