16% Of Nepal Population Receives Single Shot Of Vaccine Against Coronavirus


A total of 16.6 percent of the total population, that is more than 5 million population, has received a single dose of vaccine against Coronavirus so far.

Similarly, 13.3 percent, that is 4,052,765 people of the total population, have received a full dose of the vaccine. The total population of Nepal stands at 30,446,381, as per the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) Census 2011.

According to Dr Krishna Prasad Poudel, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP), as many as 5,063,522 people, that is 16.63 percent of total people have received a single shot vaccine so far.

“The vaccination campaign was started in Nepal on Jan 27, and has been able to inoculate to 16.63 percent of the population,” said Dr Poudel.

Of them, 2,052,077 have received a single shot of the Covishield/ Astra Zeneca vaccine and 1,059,778 full doses. Similarly, 3,012,445 have received a single dose of Vero Cell, and 1,645,238 have received a complete dose. A total of 1,347,749 have received Johnson &Johnson, which needs only one shot.

According to Dr Jhalak Sharma Gautam, chief of the National Immunisation Programme, Nepal has been inoculating its denizens as per a priority basis, those who are working in the frontline and elderly people, were inoculated at first as a priority.

Nepal follows priority and age-based vaccination and has been inoculating its frontline workers as well as those working on essential services, he added.

“Currently, we have focused on Plus Two, university students as well as to people traveling aboard. Therefore, we have been trying to inoculate those who are at risk of contracting SARS-CoV-2,” said Dr. Gautam.

Bagmati Province holds the highest record of inoculation of the first dose of Covishield/Astra Zeneca, which stands at 557,920. Similarly, 3,14,117 have received the first dose of anti-COVID-19 vaccine in Province 1,322,911 in Province 2,208,777 in Gandaki Province, 307,874 in Lumbini Province, 117,248 in Karnali Province, and 222,230 in Sudur Paschim Province.
