4-point agreement to ease garbage disposal at Bancharedanda


A four-point agreement was reached on Wednesday evening to end the current obstruction of dumping garbage at the Bancharedanda landfill site in Kathmandu.

After discussions between the Chief District Officers of Kathmandu, Dhading and Nuwakot and local representatives of Dhunibesi municipality (Dhading), Kakani rural municipality (Nuwakot) and the Chief Administrative Officer of Kathmandu Metropolitan Municipality agreed on the four points.

Chief District Officer of Kathmandu, Gobinda Rijal, informed that according to the agreement trucks ferrying garbage should not leak leachate en route the landfill site, chemicals to prevent foul smell should be sprayed regularly where the garbage is piled, dumping should not be done irresponsibly, and authorities will work towards implementing the earlier agreement signed in June.

Earlier, a complaint was filed in the district administration office against three leaders of the ruling party of Dhunibesi municipality of Dhading who had issued a statement saying that they would not allow dumping of waste at the landfill site. Meanwhile, local leaders of Dhunibesi Municipality have expressed concerns about the implementation of the above. They have also said that trucks will be obstructed again if they are found to be leaking leachate.
