At least 53 rounds of blank fire have been opened in five districts across the country on the day of the election today.
According to Tek Prasad Rai, spokesperson of Nepal Police, the police opened blank fire in polling stations to control the disorderly situation in Rautahat, Siraha, Chitwan, Dolakha and Bajura districts.
One person died in Damtha polling station in Bajura owing to bullet injuries after police opened fire. The police said they opened blank fire to disperse the clashing mobs which threatened the peaceful polling.
On the day of the election, several party members and individuals tried to disrupt the peaceful proceeding of voting.
Police arrested Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal cadres for disrupting the voting process in three election centres in Aathbiskot Municipality in Rukum West.
Similarly, a ballot box was set on fire at a polling centre in Swamikartik-1 of Bajura district. After holding a discussion, the voting time was extended till 6:30 pm.
The voting process was affected in 44 election centres across 25 districts in the ongoing federal and provincial elections due to vandalism, lack of transportation and political dispute.
