5G technology trial to begin in Kathmandu after Tihar

The 5G wireless mobile networks will be rolled out for tests in Kathmandu immediately after Tihar festival, according to Nepal Telecom.

Trials and tests of the fifth-generation mobile network technology have been delayed for more than 15 months and will likely begin after October 27.

The 5G mobile network has up to 100 times more capacity than its predecessor 4G meaning it will offer faster connections, higher throughput and more capacity than 4G while benefitting areas with high traffic such as public places.

As per reports, 5G allows users to download movies and videos or larger files in seconds which currently takes minutes.

Spokesperson for Nepal Telecom, Shobhan Adhikari informed that the company will start the 5G trial in Kathmandu in the first phase, and in Pokhara and Nepalgunj in the second phase.

After that, tests will be conducted in all seven provinces, in one location each, within the current fiscal year.
