Nepal’s national men’s football team head coach Abdullah Almutairi expects the AFC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers match against Jordan will be vital for his side. The Nepal-Jordan which will be held from Wednesday at Kuwait.
Addressing the pre-match conference held at Kuwait on Tuesday, Coach Almutairi said: “We are under pressure because we are the pot-four team in the group so we are under pressure as a team from the pot-four we want to do something special,” Coach Almutairi said.
“The match against Jordan will be important for Nepal’s national football team, it’s important to do something different to perform well against Jordan in the tomorrow’s clash. We watched the battle of Jordan against India and Australia while we stayed in Doha, Qatar so we have made a plan against Jordan in the tomorrow’s clash,” Coach Almutairi added.
“If we are able to stop Jordan in the opener of the qualifiers, we will definitely perform well against host Kuwait and Indonesia in the remaining matches of the qualifiers,” Coach Almutairi added.
Jordan national men’s football team head coach Adnan Hamad was delighted for the qualifiers and the preparation was good for the much awaited qualifiers through the Doha camp. “We played two matches in our Doha, Qatar camp and host Kuwait and Jordan have a great chance of qualifying and we will try to return Jordan to its natural place in Asia.There is a difference in the level between the four teams,” Coach Hamad said.
“The host Kuwait team has a history and despite its decline in its level in recent years, it can well return to excellence,” Coach Hamad added.
Nepal will play its FC Asian Cup 2023 Qualifiers without its national team captain and first choice goalie Kiran Chemjong along with ten other senior players who were suspended and are currently under investigation for leaving the close-camp held in Kathmandu for the qualifiers.
The top teams from each group from qualifiers will directly advance into the final round of the AFC Asian Cup 2023 and the five best first runners-up will also secure their spot in the final round. The Asian region championship AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers will be held from 8th to 14th June in Kuwait. Nepal has been drawn into the group ‘A’ alongside host Kuwait, their well-known rival of the Asia region Jordan and Indonesia.
