CPN-UML vice chairman Bam Dev Gautam said on Friday that he quit the party membership as well as the post of party vice chairman effective from Friday.
Issuing a statement this evening, Gautam renounced the party membership, citing that he could not stay in the CPN-UML because of wrong principles, tendencies and working style of party chairman KP Sharma Oli.
Gautam submitted his resignation to UML Party Office Secretary Sher Bahadur Tamang at Thapathali-based party headquarters, said Gautam’s press advisor Biswomani Subedi.
“I have resigned from the post of the party vice-chairman and all the responsibilities of the party today as I am unable to remain in the CPN-UML due to your wrong principles, tendencies and working style,” read his resignation letter. He accused UML chairman Oli of never following the political line passed by the party’s 9th General Convention.
He also accused Oli of not implementing the manifesto of the Left Alliance (UML and Maoist Center) since he became the Prime Minister.
Gautam alleged Oli for not adhering to the people’s multi-party democracy and Madan Bhandari’s principles and values, principle of supremacy of the constitution and the rule of law.
He was elected as party vice-chairman in the 9th general convention of the party. Gautam had earlier announced to be part of the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led CPN ( Unified Socialist), formed by splitting the CPN-UML.
According to Subedi, Gautam had also forwarded a condition to join the CPN (Unified Socialist) that the party should fully adopt the principle of people’s multi-party democracy.
Prior to the formal split of UML, Gautam had launched a campaign to keep party unity intact.
