Minister for Home Affairs and Chairman of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee, Bal Krishna Khand, Monday instructed the concerned ministries, thematic bodies and security agencies to be serious in preparing and responding to minimise the loss of life and property due to monsoon-induced disasters.
At the 13th meeting of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Executive Committee held at the Ministry, Minister Khand directed to submit a detailed action plan in writing to the Ministry with details of preparations for this year’s monsoon, status of the manpower and available resources.
The meeting has discussed in detail the agenda including Monsoon Preparedness and Response National Action Plan 2079, Joint Secretary and Spokesperson for the Ministry Phadindra Mani Pokhrel said after the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada suggested that the emergency contact numbers of the responsible bodies be communicated to the public.
Minister for Urban Development Ram Kumari Jhankri said disaster-related issues should be included in the integrated development programme of the government. Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi stressed on the need for coordination among the bodies from bottom to top in rescue and relief and provision of adequate equipment in strategic places.
During the programme, secretaries from various ministries, heads and representatives of security agencies, representatives of Nepal Red Cross Society and Nepal Chamber of Commerce briefed the meeting about the condition of preparedness and response plan of their ministries and agencies.
