Blocked Marsyangdi River Starts Opening Up

The Marsyangdi River, which was blocked at different places due to landslides, is now slowly opening up, thanks to the effort of security forces.

The Marsyangdi river passing through Manang district was blocked at Chame, Muredanda and Hunde due to landslide debris and wooden logs leading to the formation of a huge dam.

Chief District Officer Bishnu Lamichhane said that the water flow in the river blocked at different places has started passing through slowly. A bridge leading to Chame bazaar was at the risk of being swept away due to the blockade. The water from the dam was released with the help of Armed Police Force 32 Company Manang and Nepal Police on Sunday.

The local administration has urged the Manang folks to stay alert though there was no risk for the time being as water level in the river has decreased to some extent. With the start of rainy season, floods and landslide have a great havoc in Manang this year, inflicting extensive damage to physical infrastructure and private property.

Out of four local levels, three rural municipalities have been completely affected from landslide and floods, added Lamichhane.
