An under construction home of ex-Minister for Communication and Information Technology Gokul Prasad Baskota has been the target of a bombing attack. An IED (Improved Explosive Device) in the form of a pressure cooker bomb exploded around 8 a.m. Wednesday morning in Manohara, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality, according to the police.
No human casualties have been reported, however, Baskota’s the homes of neighbours has been damaged.
Police are investigating into the incident, and sources claim that Nepal’s outlawed Nepal Communist Party
(Biplab) could be behind the attack. Minister Baskota had resigned earlier in February, after a leaked audio tape suggested the minister’s alleged corruption during the procurement of a security press machine. In the audiotape, the former minister is heard negotiating a 740 million deal.
Minister Baskota claiming innocence has also filed a defamation case against Bijay Prakash Mishra, a Swiss company agent in the procurement deal – alleging that he was framed and defamed.
