Calibration testing at Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) severely affected the scheduled domestic and international flights on Thursday.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), an aircraft from Thailand’s AEROTHAI company was flown from 11 am to 1 pm as part of the calibration. The flight was necessary to test the airport’s communication, navigation and surveillance equipment.
This, however, delayed scheduled flights by up to 45 minutes, leading many passengers to vent their anger on social media.
There were 79 international flights and 296 domestic flights scheduled to land at TIA on Thursday. All of those that were supposed to land and/or take off during the calibration period were affected.
