The Central Committee meeting on CPN-UML is scheduled to start today. The politburo meeting CPN-UML held at the party headquarters in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Thursday has set eleven agendas for the Committee meeting.
The agenda of the central committee meeting has included suggestions of the secretariat, standing committee and politburo members in the draft prepared by chairman KP Sharma Oli.
“In the report submitted by the chairman, the agenda of the meeting has been decided by including suggestions of the leaders of various committees, and it will now be discussed by the central committee,” said Prithvi Subba Gurung, head of the information department of CPN-UML.
The politburo meeting, on Thursday, was focused on the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly elections announced for upcoming November 20. Party Publicity and Dissemination Department deputy-chief Bishnu Rijal confirmed the commencement of the meeting.
The Central Committee meeting of UML is going to be held for the first time after the local elections. “This meeting will focus on reviewing the previous election and preparing for the upcoming election,” says Gurung.
Party Chair KP Oli while discussing the criteria for candidate selection suggested that more young leaders should be prioritised as parliamentary candidates. His views were supported by other leaders with examples of victory by young, independent candidates in Kathmandu metropolis and Dharan sub-metropolis.
Oli said that UML is in position to stand in the elections alone against the alliance, however, he said that party is open to possible synergy with other parties. “CPN-UML is in a position to fight alone and it will fight alone but the door should not be closed for the possible coordination (with other parties),” a leader said, quoting Oli’s statement.
