China’s top lawmaker Li arrives in Kathmandu for four days visit

Li Zhanshu, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress of the People’s Republic of China, arrived in Kathmandu on Monday on a four-day official visit.

According to the press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the cordial invitation of Agni Prasad Sapkota, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Parliament of Nepal, Li Zhanshu, and his delegation arrived in Kathmandu this afternoon by a special flight leading 67 members of his delegation.

Li is on a four-day official visit to Nepal.

Upon his arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, Li Zhanshu was accorded a warm welcome by Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota, and senior officials of the Federal Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Speaker Sapkota and Li will hold delegation-level bilateral talks on Monday. The Speaker will host a banquet in honour of Li and the members of his delegation today evening.

During his stay in Nepal, Li will pay courtesy calls to President Bidya Devi Bhandari on September 14 and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba on September 13. Li will meet with Chairperson of the National Assembly Ganesh Prasad Timilsina, and Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka will pay a courtesy call on Li the same day.

Chairman of CPN-UML, K P Sharma Oli, and Chairman of CPN-Maoist Centre Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ will also hold separate meetings with Li on September 13.

He is scheduled to return home on September 15 on a special flight.
