Chinese Defence Minister Wei Fenghe arriving in Kathmandu today


Kathmandu, Nepal:

Wei Fenghe, State Councilor and Defense Minister of the People’s Republic of China, is paying a one-day working visit to Nepal today.

According to a press release issued by Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wei will pay courtesy calls on President Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli during his day-long visit.

He will also meet with General Purna Chandra Thapa, Chief of Army Staff, Nepali Army before leaving Kathmandu in the evening today.

The high-level visit from the China is followed by Indian Foreign Secretary Harsha Vardhan Shringla’s two-day visit to Nepal, which concluded on Friday.

Although both Nepali and Chinese sides have not made public the agenda for Wei’s visit, a protocol for a deal for 150-million RMB Chinese military assistance, signed between the two neighboring countries during the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and then Defence Minister Ishwor Pokharel to China last year, is expected to be signed during his stay in Nepal.
