Chure roads ravaged by floods

The road built along the rivers leading to the settlement in the northern Chure area of Sarlahi has been blocked for a long time.

Due to the flooding and damage of roads by the rivers, the villagers had a problem in getting food from the market. The vehicles going to the villages in Chure area through the banks of the river have been stopped. Locals of Lalbandi Municipality-14, Narayan Khola and Ward No. 12, Bhalukhop village have been suffering during the rainy season for years.

Due to the constant flooding in the river during the rainy season, people here are forced to transport food by tractors which is a riskier way. Chhenam Singh Ghising, Chair of Ward No. 14 said that tractors carrying food grains from Lalbandi market often get stuck in Lakhandehi and Bahuni rivers and also meet accidents.

As the food produced in the village is not enough to meet the demands for a year, the residents of Narayan Khola are forced to buy rice and other food items.

According to Ghisingh, while food is transported mostly in tractors and jeeps, people here are sometimes forced to meet death due to the failure to reach the health facilities, that are far and require hours of walk, to get treatment.

With the onset of the rainy season, the residents of Guidung, Bhalukhop, Pipaldamar, Lamidamar in north-eastern part of Sarlahi and Chhodke areas in the north-west of Mahottari face problem in transporting food.

Devi Bahadur Khatri, Ward Chair of Ishwarpur Municipality-12, informed that the road along the Banke River leading to Guidung, Pipaldamar and other areas has also been damaged by the floods.

While other areas witness less rain, there is flooding in the Chure area because it rains almost every day. Vehicles carrying food and passengers from market are stuck midway when it rains.

With the onset of the rainy season, the unpaved and earthen roads in Ishwarpur, Lalbandi, Harion and Bagmati municipalities of the district that connect the villages of Chure area by the river have become dilapidated.
