Karnali Province Chief Minister Jeevan Bahadur Shahi is seeking the vote of confidence in the provincial assembly on Tuesday.
CM Shahi has filed a proposal to seek the vote of confidence on Friday. The meeting of the provincial assembly has been called for 1 pm.
According to the constitutional provision, the chief minister has to win the vote of confidence within 30 days of his/her appointment.
Minister Shahi was appointed as the Chief Minister on November 2 with the support of the three-party alliance – Nepali Congress, CPN (Maoist Centre) and CPN (Unified Socialist) –and with the support of 21 provincial assembly members.
Secretary of the Provincial Assembly Secretariat Jivraj Budhathoki informed that Shahi was scheduled to submit a proposal for the vote of confidence.
The Karnali Provincial Assembly has 35 members, 13 of CPN-UML, 12 of CPN (MC), six of Nepali Congress, three of Janata Samajwadi Party and one of Rastriya Janata Party.
It is informed that CM Shahi will expand the cabinet only after he secures the vote of confidence.
