Coalition necessary to secure two-thirds majority: Khadka

Nepali Congress vice-president Purna Bahadur Khadka on Saturday said that Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has led the mission to fulfil a resolution that was taken by the NC.

Speaking at the memorial meeting of Martyr Radheshyam Jonchhe Memorial Academy and scholarship and certification distribution programme in Bhaktapur, he said the NC achieved success due to Deuba’s strong and efficient leadership.

“Prime Minister and party president Deuba leading mission of achieving NC’s objective, fulfilling its resolution, making the party big and amending the constitution by securing two-thirds majority from the present coalition,” said the NC vice-president.

Underlining the need of coalition for upcoming election to secure two-thirds majority, former Home Minister Khadka said that the situation was not favourable to amend the constitution by securing two-thirds majority as the NC does not have enough number for that.

Stating the coalition with communists was the need of present hour and the situation, Khadka remembered the Ganeshman Singh-led democratic movement had become successful after joining hands with the communists even though BP Koirala had stated never to forge an alliance with the communists.

“Present political coalition was forged for saving democracy, amending the constitution, maintaining peace and fulfilling overall national interest. This coalition would secure two-thirds majorities in the upcoming Federal and Provincial elections,” he said.

On behalf of the NC, vice-president Khadka expressed commitment to continue working in the interest of the people to not break people’s trust in the NC. He instructed the newly elected local level representatives from the NC to work by wining people’s heart.

“Work giving a feeling to the people that the NC is their party. Try to add assets for the party,” he said.

NC Bagmati Province committee chair Indra Baniya informed the Bagmati Province Government would construct the Jonchhe Memorial building and statue. He said the NC was standing for democracy. NC Central Working Committee member Rama Paudel, NC Bhaktapur chair Durlav Thapa and others suggested the party leadership to steer the party targeting upcoming elections.

In the function, Padam Bahadur Paudel announced providing 3 anna 2 paisa land of Suryabinayak Municipality-8 to build Jonchhe Memorial building and the statue. Academy chair and Bagmati Province Industry, Commerce and Supply State Minister Rajani Jonchhe highlighted the role played by her husband late Jonchhe.

Jonchhe was injured in attacks by members of then CPN (Maoist) firing gun in 2059 BS at his home Katunje of Bhatapur and passed away in the same year.
