The construction of a 50-bed new hospital building under the jurisdiction of the Health Service Office, Jumla is in full swing. The construction company has intensified the construction work with the objective of completing the work ahead of the deadline stipulated in the agreement. The construction company will get a bonus as per the rules if it completes the work before scheduled time.

Tsering Lama, representative of Prerna Kyarawan Buddha Himali JV, the construction company, said that 20 per cent of the construction work, which was started last September, has been completed.

Although the company had signed an agreement with the Intensive Urban Development Office, Jumla for the construction in the last week of April, the work could not be carried out for four months from May due to the locals’ protest against stone extraction.

Lama said that the construction work was going on smoothly now and it was in the process of completing the construction of the building as soon as possible. The agreement was signed with the office to complete the building within three years from the date of the agreement.

He added that the construction materials like stones, sand, wood, cement and rods have reached all the construction sites and work was being carried out by both trained and untrained workers. The company aims to complete 50 per cent of the work by the next month if snowfall does not stop it.

The company said that it was preparing to get the bonus amount at the rate of 10 per cent after completing the work one year before the scheduled date. If the company is successful, it will get a bonus of Rs. 20 million. Bimal Rawat, sub-engineer who was entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring the site, said that the agreement was signed to complete the work at Rs. 210 million.

He said that there were two blocks of the building which comprises eight-room emergency room and another five-room medical and health workers’ quarters which are under construction. After its construction is completed, the existing 15-bed hospital will be expanded to 50 beds.
