COVID-19 cases on rise, people urged to wear mask in public places

As new cases of COVID-19 are increasing in neighboring countries and fear of a new COVID wave is emerging in the nation, the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has appealed all to wear a face mask while in public places.

Although the new variant of coronavirus, Omicron BF.7, has not been detected in Nepal yet, new COVID-19 cases have seemed to increase in Nepal.

On Thursday, Nepal reported 14 new cases of COVID-19, reaching two-digit new COVID-19 cases after quite some time.

A meeting of the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) came to the conclusion that awareness should be spread about mask compulsion in public places since many people have stopped wearing masks now in Nepal. Similarly, traffic personnel are again seen holding placards reminding all to wear masks in public spaces.

Meanwhile, MoHP has also requested the cooperation of all three tiers of government for prevention, identification as well as in control and treatment management.

At borders, it has begun checking temperature and started performing antigen tests at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
