COVID-19 Cases Will Increase Again If People Neglect Health Safety Measures

Partially relaxed prohibitory order can increase the risk of COVID-19 in case people fail to abide by the health safety standards as directed by the government, experts warn.

Even though many studies have been carried out on SARS-CoV-2, but the situation is still unpredictable as many other aggressive sub-variants have emerged worldwide.

According to Dr. Krishna Prasad Poudel, director at the Epidemiology and Communicable Disease Control Division, agent, person and environment play a pivotal role in contracting any disease. An agent is a virus in line with the COVID-19 infection, and many variants have been detected in different places.

The delta variant which is also witnessed in Nepal has proved to be more infectious and contagious as well, he added.

Similarly, the chances of contracting or not contracting any disease depend on the health of people. Those having weak immunity power are likely to be the home of many diseases, so goes with COVID-19 as well. People having diabetics, in asteroids are at a high risk of COVID-19, said Dr. Poudel.

Environment also helps in spreading COVID-19. Risk is higher in closed rooms, little ventilated areas and highly congested areas, such as banks, government, and private offices, shops, and other areas. It has been found that banks and offices having confined spaces have shown a high infection rate, he added.

Even though the prohibitory order has been relaxed, but the transmission and infection rate has not dropped down to zero yet, so denizens need to abide by the health safety protocols.

Dr. Poudel attributed negligence on part of the public after the relaxation of prohibitory order to the rise in cases when the first wave was gone. He warned this could happen again and invite the third wave if people ignore health safety measures.

He urged the public to be vigilant and show their full participation by adhering to be health safety standards.

“The National Health Research Council (NHRC) has studied about different types of variants that have been observed in the country. Risk areas and risk age groups are being mapped out via prevailing records. Similarly, the National Health Research Council is studying two types of vaccines and their effectiveness,” said Dr. Poudel.

The number of districts which have over 500 active cases is 27 while there are over 200 active cases of COVID-19 in 30 districts as of today in the country.
