COVID-19: Daily update from Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population


Dr. Bikash Devkota, Speaker for the Ministry of Health and Population appeared on Facebook Live for the day’s media briefing. Here are a few updates:

Total no. of tests done in Kathmandu: 1529

No. of tests in past 24 hours in Kathmandu: 88

Likewise, tests are ongoing at Dharan, Pokhara, Hetauda, Janakpur, Surkhet, Dhangadhi, and Chitwan.

Butwal: Installation ongoing.

No. of people in isolation: 113

Valley: 12

Outside valley: 101
(On suspicion of coronavirus, tests either yet to be done, or results are awaited)


Contact Tracing: 
Ongoing of all confirmed cases, special emphasis on Kailali, Kanchanpur, and Baglung Districts.

Active Cases: 9

Baglung 2
Dhangadi 4

All cases reported to be normal.

No. of recoveries: 1

Mobile App:

As per the mobile app and website of MOHP covid19.mohp.gov.np launched by MoHP, 8097 people have registered themselves for self-evaluations. Of them, 150 have been identified in the red zone.

Kharipati Quarantine: All 94 people placed in Kharipati Quarantine facility have tested negative for COVID-19.

Rapid Diagnostic Tests:

RDTs are to be done in Kanchanpur, Kailali and Baglung Districts. If any one tests positive, then they will undergo a PCR test for confirmation.

Answer: Yes, they do, and have been constructed keeping international standards in mind.

2. Hospitals are denying service. What should the public do?

All hospitals have been instructed to keep their emergency wards operational, and should not deny treatment to any patient.

3. What does phase 2 imply?

Phase 2 of the COVID-19 has spread further panic within the public. However, that only means people have to practice proper isolation, and the public should abide by the lockdown.
